Lecture by Anette Fasang und Gökçe Yurdakul

How are populations changing how are they related to family forms’ dynamics? What urgent socio-political challenges arise from current population developments? This lecture introduces students to the BA in social demography and family sociology. These include micro-theories of family research, various methodological approaches to investigate family change, as well as the basics of social demography and demographic methods. In the course of the lecture, students acquire various theoretical approaches and empirical knowledge about families and populations in (East and West) Germany and consider them in a European and global comparison. Normative and ethical issues related to family and population analysis are also discussed.
